"How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard," – A.A. Milne.
Our beloved mother, Ruth Durkin, was called to God's kingdom on August 18, 2019.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her three children, Mike (Wife; Sandy), Mary Ann, and Joe (Wife; Julie). Ruth had three beautiful grandchildren whom she adored, Steve, Lindsay, and Jack.
Ruth loved to travel, she loved Ireland, she was a voracious reader, she enjoyed watching tennis, and she loved playing cards and games with her sisters and family.
Ruth's strength in her Catholic faith was evident in her every action. A Catholic mass will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, August 23rd, at 10:00 A.M. in Long Beach, California. Please sign the guestbook at For more information, call 562-425-6401.

Dearest Ruth,

Thank you for being such a wonderful mother-in-law to me, a loving Nana to Jack and most of all kind gentle mother to Joe. I know you have a special place in Charlies hart too. Anytime we mention your name to him his tail would wag a million miles a minute.

I cherish the special times we had together. Alaska will always be a special memory to me. I know it was on your bucket list, but what you might not know was bringing you was the way I could convince Joe to go, because he loved spending time with you. I also will hold all the memories of the other trips we had together too in a special place (Hawaii, Chicago, Thanksgivings in Idaho, the desert and mountain) heart games, Birthdays, Easters and Christmas sleepovers too. You were always a pleasure to be around. Your sweet disposition, sense of humor and knowledge always made any event more enjoyable.

Selfishly I do not want to say goodbye to you, but I am grateful for the time we had together and the years you were here with us were a bonus. Although I am not ready to say goodbye, I know when you choose to leave the Lord will welcome you with open arms. Your heart is pure and full of love. Thank you for your love and kindness.

With eternal gratitude,
Julie Durkin
