Patricia Ann Mancillas was born on April 12, 1943 in Los Angeles, California to Lloyd Boxx and Dorothy Northrup. Pat graduated from Millikan High in 1961, received her A.A. from LBCC, her B.A. from CSULB, and her M.A. from CSULA. Pat met her husband, Ruben, at a summer school art class at CSULB and they were married at St. Matthews here in Long Beach in 1966. Pat and Ruben moved to their home in Los Altos where she lived for the last 53 years.

Pat was an elementary school teacher in the ABC Unified School District for over 30 years and served on the executive board of her ABCFT teachers union as well as on the executive board of the retirees group.

Pat was a Long Beach local; she enjoyed plays and musicals at the Carpenter Center and could be found having breakfast with friends at Schooner or Later on the Long Beach Marina. She enjoyed going to tea, attending senior classes at CSULB, being a part of the Bixby Knolls book club, and relaxing in her beautiful garden. Her triplet grandchildren were the pride of her life. Pat was defined by her kind smile and generous spirit. Her family, friends, and the generations of students whose lives she touched were blessed to have known her.

Pat passed away on April 16, 2019 and is survived by her brother, Doug Boxx, and her sister, Kay Hall; her son Ruben, her daughter-in-law Adriean, and her grandchildren Ethan, Julian, and Olivia. A memorial service will be held April 25 at 1:00 p.m. at All Souls Cemetery, 4400 Cherry Ave. , Long Beach 90807. In lieu of flowers and to honor Pat's lifelong work in education, donations may be made to a scholarship fund to support students in the ABC Unified School District who want to become teachers. Contributions can be made to: ABCFTR, Pat Mancillas Scholarship, 19444 Norwalk Blvd. Cerritos CA, 90703.
