John Lester "Jack" McClellan Obituary

John Lester "Jack" McClellan passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Huntington Beach, California on Tuesday, February 10, 2015.
Jack was born April 3, 1934 in Sedalia, Missouri to John Lester "Dutch" McClellan and Helen (Paige) McClellan.
Though born in Missouri, Jack grew up In Topeka, Kansas where he graduated high school and attended Washburn University. Upon leaving college, he served as a member of the Army National Guard in Kansas and in California.
During his youth, Jack was an avid car mechanic and drag racer, and was a member of a Hot Rod club called the Drag-Ons. He remained a life-long car lover and collector, among other passions.
Jack was married in 1957 to Mari Fleming and they had two children, Jay and Paul, born in Kansas, then his young family moved to California in 1961, and a third child, Dede, was born in 1962.
As a resident of California, living just a few houses from the beach, Jack began his lifelong love affair with the ocean, which he passed on to his children. He loved to sail, snorkel, beach comb, and even learned to surf with his children. He was a certified SCUBA diver and was still carrying his SCUBA card until the end.
His passion for life included many things, classic cars, the sea, and even airplanes. Jack was also a trained light aircraft pilot.
His endless wealth of storytelling on any subject far and wide was enjoyed by all who knew him, and everywhere he went people knew him and loved him.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife Molli; children Jay (Denise) McClellan of California and Georgia; Paul (Linn) McClellan of Brookings, Oregon; Dede (Ron) Olson of Long Beach, California; grandchildren Eliot Durham-McClellan, Michael McClellan, Hannah (Joshua) Jennings, Sarah McClellan, Russell Olson, Karley Olson, and Kelley Olson; brother Dave (Tonya) McClellan of Palm Desert, California; nephew Brett (Ashley) McClellan, niece Paige McClellan, three grand nephews; stepson John (Lori) Sullivan; step-grandchildren Troy Sullivan and Risa (Nick) Dagenhart. He was preceded in death by stepson Michael Sullivan who introduced him to Molli.
