Kind was the best word to describe Beth Campbell, teacher, friend, mother and grandmother, who passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, after surgery. Beth was born in Sharon, Wisconsin on January 24, 1924 to a Methodist Minister and a teacher. She attended the University of Wisconsin's Stevens Point Teachers College where she met her future husband, Lloyd Campbell, who was in the Army Air Corp. They were married in Taft, California in 1944.

Beth and Lloyd moved back to Wisconsin where son Terrill James and daughters Jean Diane, Carol Lynn and Cathryn Lee were born. The Campbells drove to California with their children in 1952, settling in Long Beach. Beth attended and graduated from Cal State Long Beach. From 1957 to 1983, Mrs. Campbell taught English, Speech and Drama, and Folklore at Stanford Junior High, Millikan, Poly and Wilson High Schools. She obtained her Masters degree in English Literature in 1962 and worked on a second Masters in Folklore at UCLA in 1970.

In 1983 Beth Campbell participated in the first gathering of Long Beach's Literary Women. She volunteered as a Docent at the Long Beach Museum of Art, as an Usher at Young People's Concerts for the Long Beach Symphony and as a Board Member of the Josephine Gumbiner Foundation. She enjoyed being a member of the Alamitos Bay Garden Club.

Beth was predeceased by daughter Jean in 1949, by her husband, Lloyd in 1992, her son, Terry in 2007 and Terry's son, Scott in 2009. From 2001 until his death in 2013, Beth enjoyed the companionship of long time friend, Robert Ware.

Beth is survived by her daughters, Carol-Lynn and Cathy; her grandsons, Brett Campbell, Colin and Dean Hendricks; granddaughters, Laurie, Christina and Lilly Campbell; great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jamie and Sam Campbell.

Beth was an intelligent, warm, loving, compassionate woman who enjoyed teaching, reading, traveling, theatre, music, art, poetry, being with people and living at the beach. She was a wonderful friend and a very good listener. She loved her annual Holiday Sing gatherings. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her and had the pleasure of her company.

A private Celebration of Life for family and friends was held on Saturday, July 19th, 2014. Donations in Beth Campbell's name may be made to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library, the or to any .
