Steve Brown Obituary
Long-time Long Beach resident Steve Brown went home to be with Jesus on February 13, 2014. Steve lived each day to the fullest, laughing much and loving much. He treasured surfing, the ocean, music, books, bikes, old movies, and his friends. More than anything he loved his best friend and wife, Deb, as well as their two children.

Steve considered Alamitos Bay one of his "closest friends". With a simple perspective on life, Steve was genuinely honest and profoundly friendly. He never met a stranger. He lived the life of the classic surfer, from the 50's until the end, delighted to share his stories of the "good old days."

Born in New Jersey, Steve came to Long Beach in the 5th grade where he saw the sport of surfing for the first time and was immediately hooked. He had been surfing ever since. Steve attended Rogers Middle School, Wilson High School, was drafted into the Army during the Viet Nam era, and he worked in construction until age 55. He most recently worked part-time for a dental laboratory.

Steve is survived by Deb, his wife and soul mate of 36 years +1 day, and their children Katie and Cody. After many years in Long Beach, Steve and Deb made their way north to live in Half Moon Bay, but Big Sur was Steve's favorite place in the world.

Friends and surfers are invited to attend a memorial paddle out at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 8, at Bolsa Chica State Beach lifeguard tower #17. This will be followed by a 2:00 p.m. reception at Bridges Church, 3435 San Anseline Avenue, Long Beach.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Steve's name to the Algalita Marine Research Institute at: http://www.algalita.org/donate/other-donations.html.
